The days and weeks ahead of the picnic were very wet, and some doubted that we would be able to have our Fourth celebration this year. As the picture shows, the day dawned beautifully. It was no surprise that several of the floats had a Noah's Ark theme or other reference to the recent hail and rain storms. There were games, a pet contest, an early-morning run and well over 200 participants in the picnic. By the time the rain came, later in the afternoon, everything had been cleaned up by neighbor volunteers and Crown Heights Park was empty. Perfect!

In spite of very hot weather the week before, we had a nice breeze and plenty of clouds block the sun.  There was a blue sky most of the day, yet some managed to get hit by as many as a dozen raindrops.  Although the trophy for the Best Float was won again by 40th Street, this year it was 40th East!

This was the first year we rented a waterslide.  Neighbor John Joyce kept it safe and fun for dozens of kids.

Decorating the Shartel Median for the Holiday Season is an activity that draws youngsters of all ages the Sunday in December each year.  Neighbor Amanda Bleakley, arranged sleigh rides and beautiful, balmy weather to welcome the many neighbors who participated this year.  At sundown on Sunday, December 21st, we gathered to light the first light of the Menorah on the first night of Hanukkah.

Oktoberfest 2008!  A beautiful, warm fall day.  Slightly windy.  Two hundred neighbors brought potluck side dishes, salads and desserts.
CH-EH President Alan Kirkpatrick presents a letter to ODOT Executive Director Gary Ridley, thanking ODOT for minimizing the impact on our neighborhood during the I-235 Interchange project.  Originally, the sound wall was not planned for at least ten years, but our activist neighborhood saw its efforts rewarded with an attractive, dare we say, "artistic" wall.
An exceptionally pleasant July day saw hundreds of residents and their guests at the 37th annual CH-EH 4th of July Parade and Picnic.  Over two dozen dogs participated in the pet contest. John and Sharon Reeves were named Neighbors of the Year. Best Float was (again) won by 40th Street West.  Another successful celebration reminding us of that small-town, old-time feeling of our neighborhood.
Sunday April 27, 2008 was cooler than the warm weather of the previous week.  The temperature was perfect for the 16,000 participants in the 2008 Memorial Marathon and many neighbors bundled up to come out and cheer the runners as they came through our neighborhood.
On Saturday, April 5th, students from OU came as a part of their "Big Event" to help with landscaping and cleanup in Crown Heights Park.
The morning of March 22nd was a beautiful day, and surprisingly warm. Although we had fewer egg hunters than in previous years, many came and a fun time was had by all.
In the early morning of December 10th, branches began breaking and, one after another, the lights went out on every block in CH-EH. Most were without electricity for three days, but some homes were dark for a week.
The Fates were kind, once again, to CH-EH.  The first Sunday in October was a beautiful day for our annual Oktoberfest celebration.  It wasn't until the following day that Fall temperatures were upon us.
2007 - Another successful Fourth of July Celebration in Crown Heights Park.
The first participants in the 2007 Memorial Marathon first appeared before 7AM along 38th Street by Crown Heights Park.
The Centennial Clock that Marylyn Rowell had proposed to the neighborhood seemed too much of a stretch for us, but CH-EH came together and we were helped by corporate donations.  On April 17th, 2007, a group of neighbors gathered to dedicate CH-EH's participation in the first Centennial of the State of Oklahoma.
We were fortunate to have beautiful weather for the 2007 Easter Egg Hunt.
Another cold December Day greeted us, but the assembled neighbors erected the Menorah, made ornaments to feed the birds, drank hot chocolate and coffee, ate goodies, and generally got the holiday season off to a fun start in Crown Heights. This activity is organized every year by neighbor Nancy Love Robertson, top carhop at Sonic.
We had about 30 participants in the 7AM 2006 July 4th run.  It seemed like half the neighborhood actually walked in the parade.  And, the picnic was so well attended that the Board decided to buy two more tables for future years just to hold the potluck contributions by our neighbors!  Dorothy Thadani was recognized as the CH-EH Neighbor of the Year.
On Sunday, April 30th, thousands of 2006 Oklahoma City Memorial participants were once again welcomed to our neighborhood by cheering CH-EH residents and the balloons organized by Alan Kirkpatrick who also ran in the race.
Saturday before Easter 2006 began slightly overcast, so the weather was perfect for roping off the various areas, placing the eggs and generally preparing for the arrival of the crowds.  One estimate was a hundred eager egg hunters and over 200 parents and grandparents.  Then, promptly at 10am, John Mackechnie yelled out "Go!" to the stampeding throngs.  All available eggs were collected in under two minutes except in the area with the youngest puddywuddies where an extra minute or two was needed.  Afterwards, it was time for pictures with the Easter Bunny and face painting.
For the second year in a row, the strong, hard-working young men of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity at OU came to help us during the 2006 OU Big Event. It was the time to give the flower beds in the parks and medians their Spring treatments, and to do some cleaning up. Many neighbors were generous with their time. When you walk in the park or pass by our medians, smile because you are seeing not only the efforts of your neighbors, but also the generous efforts of the next generation of our leaders.
Spring 2006 began in our neighborhood with a frosting on all of the budding plants and trees.
On December 4th, several dozen neighbors helped trim the 2005 Christmas Tree and erect the Menorah in the Shartel median.  We strung Cheerios on green yarn and made bird seed and peanut butter pinecones for the tree, drank hot chocolate and ate cookies. Parents and children rode the horse-drawn sleigh around the neighborhood.

Our 2005 Progressive Party, organized by Pat Ball, Kris Barnett and Danielle Coats progressed between the homes of Ron & Kathleen Ketch, Chip & Linda Land and Brian & Sarah Wells. Fortunately, Hurricane Rita decided to head more towards the East, so we had perfect fall weather for munching on the participants special creations.

The 2005 CH-EH Oktoberfest was celebrated in Crown Heights Park on Sunday, October 2nd from 4-6pm.  The weather was as nearly perfect as possible. Over 150 neighbors ate Bratwurst and sampled each others' pot luck specialties.  Brats-und-Bier for the adults, and activities and food for the kids.

Our 2005 July 4th Celebration including the picnic and the inimitable CH-EH Annual Pet Contest occurred on July 9th because of a rainy, muddy July 4th morning.  Best float was 40th West.  The neighbors of the year are Suzanne and Bruce Bockus.

Alan Kirkpatrick organized the balloons for the 2005 Memorial Run in April.

2005 Easter Egg Hunt

Fred Krueger organized the Spring 2005 Tree Planting in both parts of Crown Heights park, and in the Shartel median.

The Annual Christmas Party honors Board Members and other volunteers who have worked to help our neighborhood.  It is held in the home of the President of the Board.  Linda and Marvin Resnick were our hosts in 2004.

Hundreds of CH-EH residents and their friends ate 648 (!) hotdogs cooked by Chefs Ontko, Krueger et al at the 33rd Annual CH-EH 4th of July Picnic.  First Place in the Parade went to the float by 40th West.  John Reeves officiated games for kids of all ages including sack races, egg-toss and tug-of-war.  Neighbor of the Year was Bob Alfson.
